The Pretenders

The Pretenders first came together in the late 1970s. Fronted by one of coolest chick singers of all time, Chrissie Hynde, The Ohio quartet crafted intelligent story-songs and fused it wit hard-edged guitar rock. The Prentenders sound appealed to rockers, punkers and New Wavers, alike.
The Pretenders debut dropped in 1979 and featured a cover of the Kinks' "Stop Your Sobbing," "Kid" and "Brass In Pocket." Throughout 1980, the band became a major stadium attraction in the USA, and it was in America that Hynde met and fell in love with her musical idol, the Kinks' Ray Davies. Pretenders II was released in 1982.
Tragedy then struck the band and The Pretenders disappeared for awhile and Chrissie Hynde's marriage to Ray Davie's eneded.
In May 1984, Hynde married Jim Kerr of Simple Mindsand reformed the Pretenders. In August 1985, Chrissie Hynde sang with UB40 on the UK chart-topping reggae remake of Sonny And Cher's "I Got You Babe".
In March of 2005, the Pretenders were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
