To date, Fleetwood Mac had sold more than 100 million copies of its albums. Rumours, alone, has sold over 25 million copies, clearly making Fleetwood Mac one of the most popular rock bands in history.
Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are the only members from the original Fleetwood Mac. Through the the late 60s and into the '70s, Fleetwood Mac morphed from a tripped-out British blues band that often performed 20 minute numbers during their live shows into a hit-making machine responsible for some of the best 3 minute hits radio had ever seen or heard..
The Fleetwood Mac that we all know and love today first came together in 1974 when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were invited to join Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Chrsitine McVie. With the sexy Stevie Nicks fronting the band, they quickly racked up 5 million in sales. Rumours (#1, 1977), won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and contained the 1977 hits "Go Your Own Way" (#10), "Dreams" (#1), "Don't Stop" (#3), and "You Make Loving Fun" (#9).
Fleetwood Mac returned in 1979 with Tusk and had a couple of hits with "Tusk" and "Sara". A year later, the band returned with a live double album.
Also in 1980, Nicks began work on her first solo LP, Bella Donna, which hit #1 and went quadruple platinum with three Top 20 singles: "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (a duet with Tom Petty), "Leather and Lace" (a duet with Don Henley
Fleetwood Mac's returned in 1982 Mirage , was less overtly experimental and featured the 1982 hit singles "Hold Me" , "Gypsy" and "Love in Store" (#22).
Fleetwood Mac took the next several years off before coming back together in 1985 for Tango in the Night. Released in the spring in 1987, Tango quickly moved into the Top 10, bolstered by the Top 20 hits "Little Lies," "Seven Wonders," and "Everywhere."
In 1997, Fleetwood, Buckingham, Nicks and both McVies reunited as Fleetwood Mac to record The Dance. The album's release coincided with a worldwide tour - its first in 15 years - that found Fleetwood Mac's popularity undiminished as it marked the 20th anniversary of Rumours. In 1998 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
