Asleep at the Wheel is an American country music band that was formed in 1970 in West Virginia. The founding members, Lucky Oceans and Ray Benson, connected while performing as opening acts at a concert in Washington, D.C. Within a few years, they established the band and released their debut album, "Comin’ Right At Ya", which marked the beginning of their long musical journey.

Following the release of their debut album, Asleep at the Wheel relocated to Texas. This move proved pivotal, as the band has since enjoyed nearly four decades of success, producing a rich catalog of albums that solidified their presence in the country music scene. Throughout their career, they have released several notable records, including "Texas Gold" (1975), "Wheelin’ & Dealin’" (1976), "The Wheel" (1977), "Collision Course" (1978), "10" (1987), "Western Standard Time" (1988), "Keepin’ Me Up Nights" (1990), "Ride with Bob" (1999), and "Willie and the Wheel" (2009), a collaboration with Willie Nelson.

Asleep at the Wheel has generated hit singles that resonate with audiences, including “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” (1974), “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read” (1975)—which remains their highest-charting single—“Bump, Bounce Boogie” (1975), “Route 66” (1976), “Miles and Miles of Texas” (1976), “Texas Me and You” (1978), and “House of Blue Lights” (1987). Their discography also features singles like “Walk on By” (1988), “That’s the Way Love Is” (1990), and “Lay Down Sally” (1996), illustrating their versatility and appeal.

Although founding member Lucky Oceans departed from the group in the early 1980s, Asleep at the Wheel has continued to thrive under the leadership of Ray Benson. Today, the band features a current lineup that includes Elizabeth McQueen, Eddie Rivers, David Earl Miller, Jason Roberts, Dan Walton, and David Sanger.
