Blue Man Group BIO

Blue Man Group is an American performance art company formed in New York City in 1987 by Matt Goldman, Chris Wink, and Phil Stanton. Renowned for its unique stage productions, the company incorporates diverse music and art, appealing to both popular and obscure tastes. The performances are characterized by the silent antics of three performers, known as Blue Men, who have their skin painted blue.

The group originated from the collaboration of Goldman, Wink, and Stanton in Manhattan's Lower East Side, starting with creative "disturbances" and small shows at downtown clubs before evolving into a full-length performance. Their first official show, *Tubes*, was commissioned by The CLUB @ La MaMa and subsequently moved off-Broadway due to its critical acclaim. The group maintains its mystique, with performers remaining in character and autographs provided with a smudge of blue paint.

Beyond stage shows, Blue Man Group expanded into film and television, music, and a children's museum exhibit ("Making Waves"). *Audio* was the first album released in 1999, followed by albums such as *The Complex* (2003), which featured guest vocals from Dave Matthews and Venus Hum.

Blue Man Group began touring extensively in the new millennium, including a performance with Moby in 2002 and a headlining tour in 2003. They expanded internationally, performing in Europe and Taiwan, and later aboard the Norwegian EPIC cruise ship in 2010.

In the summer of 2017, Cirque du Soleil purchased Blue Man Productions, with plans for further expansion and diversification. As of 2025, Blue Man Group has performances running in Berlin, Boston, Las Vegas, and Shanghai. The company has also toured nationally and internationally, appeared on TV programs, and released multiple studio albums.
