Growing up in a musically inclined family—her father was a well-established actor—Connie adopted her father's stage name when she embarked on her own entertainment career. After honing her talents in various singing groups in New York, she moved to Los Angeles with her father, where she began to secure small roles in films and continued to develop her artistic identity.

Stevens's breakthrough came after Jerry Lewis discovered her performance in one of her films, casting her in the 1958 comedy Rock-A-Bye Baby. This pivotal role led to her first contract with Warner Brothers, which ultimately launched her into stardom. She gained national recognition in the early 1960s for her portrayal of Cricket Blake on the hit television series Hawaiian Eye, alongside notable co-stars Robert Conrad and Anthony Eisley.
