Lisa Loeb first emerged on the music scene in 1994 with her hit single “Stay,” featured in the film Reality Bites. This song marked a significant moment in music history as she became the first unsigned artist to have a single reach the top of the charts, where it remained for three weeks. Loeb's musical journey began in childhood, where she studied piano before switching to guitar in her early teens. She further developed her musical talents by studying music theory at Brown University and then attending Berklee School of Music in Boston before forming a band in 1990.

Renaming her band to Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories, Loeb honed her artistic vision alongside her bandmates Joe Quigley, Tim Bright, and Jonathan Feinberg. Her friend Ethan Hawke played a pivotal role in her breakout; he invited Loeb to contribute a song for his film's soundtrack. The successful inclusion of “Stay,” selected by the film’s director Ben Stiller, propelled Loeb into the spotlight and solidified her place in music history.

Following the success of “Stay,” Loeb was signed by Geffen Records, paving the way for her debut album, Tails. Released about a year later, it was well-received and established her as a force in the music industry. In 1997, her follow-up album, Firecracker, achieved gold status, while her subsequent releases, including Cake and Pie, showcased her evolution as an artist. Loeb’s work extended beyond albums, with the release of children's books and music, such as Lisa Loeb's Silly Sing-Along.

In 2017, Loeb released Lullaby Girl, featuring a mix of classic songs and new originals, gaining further recognition including a National Parenting Product Award. The following years saw her tackle diverse projects, such as her studio-recorded cover of Bright Eyes' “First Day of My Life,” and her original song “Love Never Dies” as the theme for a James Patterson novel.

Loeb continued to explore her craft with the release of A Simple Trick to Happiness in February 2020, marking her most personal album yet, drawing from her experiences as a mother and songwriter. Her music videos during this period showcased various tracks from the album, receiving praise from critics and fans alike. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she launched #StayAtHomeTogether, a series of live virtual concerts that allowed her to connect with fans while also performing for healthcare workers.

In August 2021, Loeb premiered Together Apart, a unique musical that encapsulated the experience of connecting over Zoom during the pandemic. The project emerged from a reunion of her Brown University musical theater classmates and became a collaborative effort showcasing the talents of fellow alumni, benefitting the Actors Fund.

Looking ahead, in August 2024, Loeb plans to release a children's album titled That's What It's All About, collaborating with the band The Hollow Trees, which promises to include both covers and original songs. Throughout her career, Lisa Loeb has demonstrated her versatility as a musician and storyteller, continuing to enchant audiences with her heartfelt lyrics and innovative projects.
