Matchbox Twenty, an American rock band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995, emerged on the music scene during a time of transition in the industry. The band's original lineup comprises lead vocalist Rob Thomas, bassist Brian Yale, drummer Paul Doucette, and lead guitarist Kyle Cook. With their debut album, "Yourself or Someone Like You," released in 1996, they achieved international fame, thanks in part to their distinctive sound that resonated with a wide audience.

The formation of Matchbox Twenty came about when Rob Thomas relocated to Orlando and crossed paths with Brian Yale and Paul Doucette. "Yourself or Someone Like You" featured initial singles like “Long Day,” which paved the way for their breakout hit “Push,” propelling the band into heavy radio rotation.

After a brief hiatus in 2004 due to the departure of guitarist Adam Gaynor, Thomas, Yale, Doucette, and Cook regrouped in 2007. They continued to release music, culminating in the 2012 album "North," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. This resurgence reiterated their place in the rock music landscape.

In 2017, Matchbox Twenty celebrated their two-decade-long career with the Twentieth Anniversary Tour, followed by a co-headlining tour with Counting Crows titled the Brief History of Everything Tour.
