Rob Thomas, born Robert Kelly Thomas on February 14, 1972, at an Air Force base in West Germany, is an American musician and prominent figure in the alternative rock genre. Following his parents' divorce, Thomas spent much of his childhood with his mother in Florida and his grandparents in South Carolina. He considers Orlando, Florida, his true home, where he gained significant local support and airplay, paving the way for his future career.

In 1995, Rob co-founded the band Matchbox Twenty, which would go on to be a major force in the music industry. The band released five studio albums, generating numerous hit singles such as "Push," "3AM," and "Unwell." Beyond his work with Matchbox Twenty, Thomas gained widespread recognition for his collaboration with Santana on the 1999 hit "Smooth," which won three Grammy Awards and became one of the most successful songs in Billboard history.

After more than a decade with Matchbox Twenty, Thomas launched his solo career in 2005 with the release of his debut album, ...Something to Be. Rob Thomas continued to balance his solo career with his work in Matchbox Twenty, releasing his album The Great Unknown in 2015. Earlier, in 2012, the band issued the album North, marking another successful addition to their discography.
