REO Speedwagon BIO

REO Speedwagon was one of the arena rock kings of the early '80s.


REO Speedwagon's eponymous debut recording hit in 1971 and soon thereafter, the original lead singer left the band.


Enter Kevin Cronin...


Needless to say, Cronin got the gig. REO 2 hit shelves in 1972.Incredibly, he was asked to leave after dismal album sales.


Front man Mike Murphy led the bombast on 1974"s "Ridin" the Storm Out," as it became their first album to chart on the Billboard100. Murphy remained as lead vocalist for Lost in a Dream, and 1975's This Time We Mean It.


REO Speedwagon then decided to welcome back Cronin. 1976's REO, Live: You Get What You Play For (1977) and You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish"(1978) all went gold or platinum. 1978's Live Again had the gold-certified hit "Nine Lives."


Hi Infidelity became one of the biggest albums of 1981. It featured "Keep on Loving You," as well as "Don't Let Him Go" and "Take it on the Run." The album went on to sell more than 9 million .


REO Speedwagon continued to release hit albums throughout the next decade. Good Trouble (1982) and Wheels are Turnin'(1984) sold well and included hit singles "Keep the Fire Burnin'" and "Can't Fight this Feeling".


Life As We Know It went gold in 1987.


The 90"s saw the emergence of countless REO Speedwagon compilations.
