Isabel Buarque de Hollanda Gilberto de Oliveira, known as Bebel Gilberto, was born on May 12, 1966, in New York City to two renowned Brazilian musicians: bossa nova pioneer João Gilberto and singer Miúcha. Throughout her early childhood, she traveled extensively with her parents as they performed and recorded music globally. Gilberto moved to Rio de Janeiro at the age of five, and after her parents' separation when she was seven, she divided her time between Brazil and New York.
