3 Doors Down is an American rock band originating from Escatawpa, Mississippi, formed in 1996 by founding members Brad Arnold, Matt Roberts, and Todd Harrell. Chris Henderson joined the band shortly after in 1998, and it later expanded to include Greg Upchurch, Chet Roberts, and Justin Biltonen. The band gained significant recognition with their debut single, “Kryptonite,” which was released in 2000 and achieved widespread acclaim before the band had even signed with a record label or released their debut album.

Kryptonite became one of the most requested singles of the late 1990s, which led to the band signing with Republic Records. Following this, 3 Doors Down released their debut album, The Better Life, in 2000. The album featured "Kryptonite" along with hits like "Be Like That," "Duck and Run," and "Loser." The Better Life achieved considerable commercial success, reaching triple platinum status and ranking as one of the top-selling albums of the year.

In 2002, the band released their second album, Away from the Sun, which debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 and sold four million copies worldwide, further solidifying their presence in the rock music scene. The album included hit singles such as "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You.” Following its release, the band embarked on an extensive two-year tour, performing nearly 1,000 shows worldwide.

3 Doors Down continued to release successful albums, including Seventeen Days (2005) and their self-titled fourth album (2008), both of which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Seventeen Days received platinum certification from the RIAA, while the self-titled album was certified gold. Their fifth album, Time of My Life (2011), peaked at number three, followed by Us and the Night in 2016, which reached number 14 on the Billboard chart.

The band's music is primarily classified as post-grunge and alternative rock, with themes often revolving around abandonment, angst, rebellion, and longing. Over the course of their career, 3 Doors Down has sold approximately 30 million albums worldwide, establishing a substantial fan base.

In terms of lineup changes, original guitarist Matt Roberts departed the band in 2012 due to health issues, passing away in 2016. He was succeeded by Chet Roberts, who had previously worked as Chris Henderson's guitar tech. Additionally, bassist Todd Harrell was removed from the group in 2013 following legal issues and was replaced by Justin Biltonen. The current lineup continues to perform actively, with plans to return to the studio for a new album in the coming years.
