Alexandra Lahey, known as Alex Lahey, is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Melbourne. From a young age, Lahey exhibited a passion for music, beginning her journey by playing guitar and saxophone at thirteen and later pursuing jazz studies at university. During her academic tenure, she performed with a local band, where she contributed her saxophone skills and began writing songs.

Determined to establish her own musical identity, Lahey sold her car to fund studio time, resulting in her debut EP. The lead track, “You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me,” received critical acclaim from Pitchfork and secured funding through competition prizes, which helped support her career. A performance at the renowned Splendour in the Grass music festival marked a significant milestone, followed by recognition as the Unearthed Artist of the Year at the J Awards. By late 2016, her burgeoning talent caught the attention of record labels, leading to her signing with Dead Ocean Records in January 2017.

Lahey's debut full-length album, I Love You Like a Brother, was released later that year to critical acclaim, with Spin Magazine highlighting it as one of the "Favorite Overlooked Albums of 2017." Since then, she has toured extensively across Australia, Europe, and the United States, amassing a growing fanbase and establishing herself as a prominent figure in the music scene. Importantly, Lahey's artistic journey continued with her second album, The Best of Luck Club, released in May 2019, which she co-produced with Catherine Marks.

Throughout 2019, Lahey engaged in extensive touring efforts, although her plans for 2020 were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, her song "Misery Guts" from The Best of Luck Club was included in the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, increasing her visibility in popular culture.

In 2020, Lahey expanded her repertoire by writing and recording an original song titled "On My Way" for Sony Pictures Animation's The Mitchells vs. the Machines, which became Netflix’s biggest original animated release to date.

On October 21, 2021, Lahey announced her signing with Liberation Records and released the single "Spike the Punch." Following this, she launched a national tour in October 2022, her first since 2019, and announced her third studio album, The Answer Is Always Yes, which was released on May 19, 2023.
