Brian Wilson BIO

Brian Douglas Wilson was born on June 20, 1942, in Inglewood, California. He's an American songwriter and producer, and co-founded the Beach Boys. Wilson's work with the Beach Boys led to the creation of numerous iconic songs, including "Good Vibrations," "In My Room," and "California Girls." He became known for his innovative approaches to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques. Wilson's productivity and creativity peaked in the mid-1960s, during which he wrote or co-wrote over two dozen U.S. Top 40 hits, including the number-ones "Surf City," "I Get Around," "Help Me, Rhonda," and "Good Vibrations."

He grew up in a household with an abusive father, but one who encouraged his musical interests. Wilson's father provided him with lessons in voice, piano, and accordion, and he developed a natural ability for composition and theory despite being partially deaf in his right ear.

As a child, Wilson experimented with tape recorders to create vocal arrangements and recordings. By the time he was 16, he was already exploring his musical creativity. Wilson's early influences included George Gershwin, the Four Freshmen, Phil Spector, and Burt Bacharach. He began his professional career in 1961 as a member of the Beach Boys, serving as the band's songwriter, producer, co-lead vocalist, bassist, keyboardist, and de facto leader.

In the late 1960s, Wilson's mental health and productivity began to decline, leading to periods of reclusion and substance abuse. He made a comeback in the 1980s with the release of his self-titled solo album, Brian Wilson, in 1988. Wilson continued to tour and record music throughout the 1990s and 2000s, releasing albums such as Imagination, Getting' in Over My Head, and That Lucky Old Sun.

In recent years, Wilson has released several notable albums, including Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin, In the Key of Disney, and No Pier Pressure. He also earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for "One Kind of Love," featured in the film Love & Mercy, a biopic about his life. Wilson has received numerous industry awards and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
